Body of Work

Silk

Hand-marbled silk as a contemporary artistic medium. Each composition is created individually on the surface of water using the traditional Turkish Ebru technique — no two works can ever be repeated. The silk records movement and fluidity: the meeting of water, pigment, and fabric.

Process

The Craft Behind the Silk

Each silk artwork is individually hand-marbled using the traditional Turkish art of Ebru, where pigments are floated on water and carefully transferred onto fine silk by hand.

Rather than creating a single impression, many of my silk works evolve through multiple marbling transfers completed over different stages of the process. Each layer is intentionally developed, allowing translucent forms, subtle color relationships, and a greater sense of depth to emerge over time.

Because every marbling bath is unique and water can never be controlled or repeated exactly, each successive layer responds to the one before it, creating an unrepeatable composition. This dialogue between intention, water, pigment, and time results in one-of-a-kind textile artworks that cannot be reproduced.

The finished works preserve the spontaneity of traditional Ebru while expanding its visual language through layered composition, material exploration, and contemporary artistic practice.

Ongoing Series

Between Water and Stone

An ongoing body of work exploring Turkish Ebru beyond its traditional surfaces. The series features naturally weathered stones collected along the Mediterranean shores of Ölüdeniz, Fethiye, Türkiye. Each stone carries its own natural history, shape, texture, and character; water, pigment, and stone work together to create compositions that cannot be repeated.
