Zeynep Guvenc is a contemporary Turkish Ebru (water marbling) artist based in North Carolina. Her work explores the relationship between water, pigment, material, and cultural heritage through hand-marbled silk and natural stone.

The Practice
Painted on Water
Ebru — Traditional Turkish Water Marbling — is painted on water. Hand-prepared pigments float on the surface of a thickened bath, are drawn into patterns, and are lifted in a single, unrepeatable impression. Rooted in this centuries-old tradition, Zeynep’s practice carries the marbled surface into contemporary territory: silk that returns the image to movement, and naturally weathered Mediterranean stones in the ongoing series Between Water and Stone.
Her hand-marbled silk scarves have been featured at the North Carolina Museum of Art Museum Store in Raleigh, North Carolina.
